Lesotho - To Katse Dam- April 2007

While leaving the Sani Pass, the tracks are good, even at 3000 m above sea level… Later it will be more complicated !

The “kingdom in the clouds” is made of small villages.

Luka is intrigued by the other little children who join us at each stop… “Has not shoes friend?”

Shepherds arrive from everywhere when we are in the mountains. They wear generally only a blanket...

We leave the tracks for more than 100 km in the rocks, mud and the mountains… That enables us to reach the most moved back places and to discover another world. The defender is impressive and we pass everywhere...

Sandwich break. A young shepherd joins us. We propose him to share our meal, he is happy. He does not

know how to open the Pepsi can! He moves back 50 cm because of the noise due to the opening and then he looks astonished in the box and starts to laugh !

Daniel must sometimes locate the best passage… the tracks are really bad.

Later, we will learn that we followed an "extreme 4X4 track" … there was an easier road !

But that enables us to discover an incredible world...

In the villages, people of Lesotho are more than friendly… Some, by seeing us, wonder how we arrived there … and they applaud us.

Here, we had to cross a 'wall' on the mountain .... Daniel is happy… incredible!

In fact, at certain places, there is no more track and we follow the path, people use when they are walking…

Superb birds..

What an exceptional country!

After the off-road, we are obliged to remove everything from the trailer… the milk boxes, the pasta, rice and couscous bags exploded and were spread around…

The Katse Dam, an impressive contrast, after the world we left in the mountains… the South-African engineers knew how to take profit from the biggest richness of the country, water!

Daniel and his friend...

Luka and his new hairstyle. Before and after…

Bivouac in front of a superb starry sky. Not a single noise during the night, except the water which flows out of the dam...
