Djibouti - Djibouti City - September/October 2007
We arrive in Djibouti very late in the evening...A lot of persons are walking in the streets. It's Ramadan and it's very hot! During the day, temperature is above 45 °C and during the night +- 40° C...and there is no wind at all... We stay in the Sheraton Hotel. Not really in the hotel, but on a parking behind the maintenance building...It's free for overlanders ...not the luxurious camp, since there is no water, no shower, no toilets ... but we are in front of the sea and our intention is to stay here only a few days and to take the boat for Yemen as soon as possible...
The sunrise...in front of us...
A lot of birds are looking for something to eat, when it's low tide...
Streets of Djibouti. Here, the life is very, very expensive !
At the port, they tell us that there is a boat for Yemen very soon...We get quickly our Visa for Yemen from the embassy. Every second day, the departure of the boat is postponed...It's like that during 10 days...What we see from the port of Djibouti is a big dizorganization...we will not write down all details but...regularely we get an appointment for a departure, we say goodbye to the hotel, wait several hours at the port and finally get the info that we have to come back the next day...so we'll go back to our 'parking' and hope the departure is the day after...'inch allah'.
During that time, we meet Pradeep and Kumudu. They are coming from Sri Lanka. Pradeep is responsible for the maintenance of the Sheraton hotel. They invite us several times for dinner...the food we eat in their home is excellent !
Sacha agrees that Daniel cuts his hair...he was refusing since a long time, since he wanted the same look than Harry Potter....
Emma loses 2 teeth...
The children have new friends : Hani, Yohaness & Lyia....they play together every afternoon...
Aida, the mother of the new friends is extremely nice ! Thanks again for everything you did for us !
We swim regularely and try to understand the logic of the tides , which seems quite strange to us...
The children ask us to sleep outside...which is a good solution to survive during the night in this country...
After several days, we feel at home...
