Ethiopia - Bahir Dar - Septembre 2007
Lalibela,
an important moment in our trip ... Magic! 11 orthodox churches have been build in the rocks, from top to down, from outside to inside... Real masterpieces. The legend says that King Lalibela made the churches himself. He digged during day time and angels continued the work during the night...
The churches from inside ...
The priests ...
Outside of the churches ...
We really like it, to walk from one church to another ...
When arriving close to one church we hear music and songs, intriguing ...
Birds in Lalibela.
The last church built in Lalibela, Bete Georgis, is also one of the most impressive ones...
Pilgrims from Jerusalem arrived in Lalibela and wanted to die there, some houndreds years ago...surprisingly well preserved !
Traditional 2-storeyed ethiopian house. First floor is for the animals and second floor for the family.
Unique landscapes when we leave Lalibela...
We take Pablo with us, who is travelling in Ethiopia by bike...Kids just throw stones in his direction... The tyre of the trailer once again runs away... and must be repaired in the next town, for good this time!
After Dessie, we cross the Danakil Desert, region of the Afar Nomads, to join Djibouti. It starts to be hot, very hot ! |
