Nepal - On the way to Katmandou - February 2008
We meet André and Guy in Varanasi... two belgian globetrotters on holiday in India ! We come from the same town and had a great time together !
Meeting also with Sophie, who travelles with her 2 children in India and Nepal. She offers a nice and warm cap to Luka...
Before leaving Varanasi, we visit Sarnath, an important place for buddhist pilgrims ...It's said that Buddha made his first speech here...
Direction : Népal ... a dream ! The border is crowded and it will take quite a while to cross it, even if we overtake all those trucks...
Immediately, Nepal looks different than India... We love it !
Katmandou is a big city ... As soon as we arrive, we hear about political tensions. Elections, are supposed to take place in April. All petrol stations are empty, gas is no longer available... We were not informed when we entered the country and our diesel tanks are also more or less empty ! We hope that the problems will be solved quickly...
In the meantime, we visit Katmandou ... The positive thing with this petrol shortage is that it's very quiet in the city...
Several buddhist stuppas...
Interesting meeting with a korean buddhist in a DVD shop...
Strange place for the morning prayer...
Next to the books about trekking, spirituality, self help and so on...our national 'Tintin' !
Catherine wants to purchase everything ...
Very quickly, the whole family will have new wooden jackets... In fact, it's very cold at the moment !
Freak Street ... It's here that all the babas met during the hippy period...
Soon the elections ... one can feel the tensions ! Nepal is a young democraty with several conflicts to solve...fortunately there is no danger for tourists...
Luka and his new friend ...
